Congress urged to tackle FAA funding bill before recess

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Monday urged a battle-weary Congress to not leave town without resolving a funding crisis that has been overshadowed by the debt-reduction debate: the forced furlough of 4,000 Federal Aviation Administration employees and 70,000 airport construction workers.

"Congress should not leave on its summer vacation until they finish an FAA [funding] bill," LaHood said. "Don't hold hostage innocent people who are not getting their pay check."

LaHood said that he spoke Monday with Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), the White House and members of both parties in the House.
