CAIRO — The trial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resumed Monday in a Cairo suburb, with thousands of police in riot gear deployed to control crowds of pro- and anti-Mubarak supporters.

Opponents and supporters of the longtime dictator leapt over the police barriers and began flinging rocks and smashing cars just before Mubarak arrived at the Cairo Police Academy, where a lecture hall had been fashioned into a courtroom.

A group of pro-Mubarak protesters knocked over a reporter from the Arabic Satellite News Station Al Jazeera, screaming, "The sons of Mubarak are here."
