Syrian forces kill at least 7 as Ramadan ends

CAIRO — Syrian security forces killed at least seven protesters across the country Tuesday morning, activists said, adding a grim note to the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Security was heavy as thousands of people poured out of mosques and attempted to stage anti-government demonstrations after early-morning prayers at the start of Eid al-Fitr, the three-day-long celebration that follows Ramadan.

The deaths were in Daraa province, where the protests began nearly six months ago, and in the restive city of Homs, according to the Local Coordinating Committees, an activist network. One of those killed was a 13-year-old boy, activist leaders told the Associated Press.
