WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is awarding the military's highest honor to a Marine credited with saving 36 lives during an intense fire-fight in Afghanistan.

Obama bestowed the Medal of Honor on 23-year-old Dakota Meyer during a White House ceremony. Meyer saved the lives of three dozen U.S. and Afghan comrades during an hours-long battle with the Taliban in 2009.
