Uncertainty over Greece drives down markets

BERLIN – European and some Asian markets dropped sharply lower Monday, as hopes that Greece would not be allowed to default on its debts gave way to at least two more weeks of uncertainty.

European economic officials met this weekend to discuss what to do about Greece's dwindling bank accounts, which--without a new intervention--will be empty sometime next month. But the only decision they could agree upon was to wait until another meeting in early October to ratify concrete plans.
