For seven consecutive years, the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy resided at the Naval Academy. Its precise location was in a glass case in the rotunda at Bancroft Hall, where players and their classmates were able to admire the 21 / 2-foot tall, three-sided prize for service academy football supremacy.
So accustomed to ownership were the Midshipmen that they commonly referred to Annapolis as the trophy's home. That was at least until last season, when Navy lost to Air Force, 14-6, ending its record of 15 straight wins against service academy opponents and setting into motion a series of events that continues to exasperate the team, especially this year's seniors.
