Protesters allowed to extend stay in Freedom Plaza

Many of the protesters who have made camp in downtown Freedom Plaza thought Monday would end with their arrests. By early evening, however, they were invited to stay, organizers said.
The U.S. Park Police told organizers of the Stop the Machine group, who have camped in the plaza just east of the White House since Thursday, that they could stay for four more months, according to Margaret Flowers.
