700 Earthquake rattles El Salvador in 24 Hours

Brief earthquakes, which began Thursday (24/11/2011) and ranged between 1.8 to 4.6 on the Richter Scale strength, occurred in the municipality of El Carmen, about 163 kilometers east of the capital San Salvador, the agency said Territory national country.
Jorge Melendez, who led the civil protection, said on Friday (25.11.2011), that 80 houses had been damaged by the earthquakes. A hospital in the area showed cracks on the walls but no damage to the building so far, he said.
The military has been sent to monitor the damaged places. While the government has not ordered the evacuation, many residents in El Carmen chose to sleep in the open and the military has been handing out tents.
El Salvador has suffered two very strong earthquake lately: an earthquake measuring 7.6 magnitude on January 2001 and another earthquake measuring 6.6 magnitude a month later. The second earthquake killed 1150 people and caused about one million other people who have no home.
