Opposition nominated Ex-Secretary of State Form New Government

Opposition parties agreed on Friday (25/11/2011), to nominate the leader of an alliance that led demonstrations against President Ali Abdullah Saleh to form a new government, said an opposition leader.

Saleh has transferred all powers to the Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after signing an agreement in Saudi Arabia, Wednesday (23/11/2011). Agreement proposed by the Gulf countries was aimed at resolving the crisis caused by months of protests against President Saleh.

Abu Yahia Usba, vice chairman of the Yemeni Socialist Party, said that Mohammed Basindwa, a former foreign minister who now heads the National Council which was formed after demonstrations erupted in February, has been nominated to become the next prime minister.

"I think the Vice President (Hadi) will issue a decision to ask him (Basindwa) to form a national unity government tomorrow (Saturday)," said Abu Usba. Basindwa was foreign minister from 1993 to 1994.

Gulf-backed treaty that, based on when the post of president Saleh maintain, establish the formation of new government led by the opposition to prepare an accelerated presidential election in 90 days.
