Chick-fil-A Bowl: Virginia football veterans spurred sudden turnaround in 2011

ATLANTA – It would have been difficult to imagine on July 1 that the Virginia football team's season would last until the final day of 2011. The Cavaliers, coming off a 4-8 season in 2010, assembled at 6 that cool summer morning for a circuit workout designed by strength coach Evan Marcus.

 At various stations, the players had to hit a monster-truck tire with a sledgehammer, do a series of cleans and shrugs, toss medicine balls, run up a hill 10 times, bear-crawl and push a weighted sled. It was not the most pleasant experience, fifth-year senior wideout Kris Burd said.
