Egypt’s military council blames protesters for violence

CAIRO — Egypt's ruling military council on Monday glossed over the brute force used against protesters in clashes since Friday, publicly describing the demonstrators as paid thugs and vandals.

At least 11 people have been killed and more than 400 wounded since the start of the clashes, which began when soldiers tried to break up a sit-in outside the cabinet building that was held to protest the military council.
