Obama goes golfing on day one of Hawaii vacation

HONOLULU — It didn’t take President Obama long to get back into the, er, swing of things in his native Hawaii on Saturday.

After leaving Washington after a final bruising political battle over the payroll tax cut, Obama hit the links on Day One of his holiday, golfing with a group of longtime friends and White House staffers.

After a windy, drizzly morning gave way to a mild, mostly sunny afternoon, Obama took on the course at the Marine Base at Kaneohe Bay. He was joined by several of his regular golfing party: Chicago pal Eric Whitaker, Hawaii friends Mike Ramos, Greg Orme and Bobby Titcomb and White House aides Sam Kass and Marvin Nicholson.

Obama played with Titcomb during a stop here in November for the APEC summit, drawing headlines because of Titcomb’s arrest this spring for soliciting prostitution.

The president arrived in Hawaii on Friday for a 10-day stay at a rental compound in Kailua and joined family and friends that evening for dinner at Marimoto restaurant in Waikiki.

On Saturday, Obama and his playing partners were at the golf course for 5 1/2 hours before calling it a day and heading home for Christmas Eve.
