Poll: Congress rates poorly on honesty, ethics

A record 64% of Americans rate the ethics and honesty of members of Congress as "low" or "very low," according to a new Gallup Poll. That's worse than telemarketers, car salespeople, lobbyists and journalists.
The professions with the highest marks: Nurses, pharmacists, doctors and teachers. Less than 10% of Americans give them "low" or "very low" marks on honesty and ethics.
The poll's findings go hand-in-hand with other surveys this year that show record low approval ratings for Congress.
Jeffrey Jones of Gallup writes that the low marks for Congress are in part due to the flagging economy and the inability by lawmakers to handle issues such as the nation's mounting debt.
"Congress now ties lobbyists as the most disparaged profession Gallup has ever tested," Jones writes.
