Justin Bieber on turning 18: ‘I don’t want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing’

In just three months, Justin Bieber will be a man. Legally.
The pop juggernaut’s impending 18th birthday, and the transition into adulthood that will accompany that March milestone, was the main topic of his new interview with Lady Gaga employer V Magazine.
Bieber explains that, even though he’s “not a kid anymore,” he won’t grow up too fast and will remain a positive role model for his young fans.
“I don’t want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing,” the teen star said.
(I’d like to point out, Justin Bieber, you already kind of talked about s-e-x in the song, “First Dance,” which Slate’s Jonah Weiner correctly called “a barely masked plea to deflower someone.” But I digress.)
He continued, “I’m into love, and maybe I’ll get more into making love when I’m older.”
While the preceding quote makes this writer extremely uncomfortable and a little bit nauseous, others have found it delightful.
A simple Twitter search of that sentence reveals that it has caught the attention of devoted Bieber fans who also tweet. Reactions have ranged from excited (“OMG”) to really excited (“DEAD”) to insanely excited (“AWWWWWW ASDFGHJKL.”) There are actually a lot of Biebettes who seem to have fallen face down on their keyboard before sending out their tweet.
Bieber also talks to V about his relationship with Jesus (whose face is now tattooed on his left calf) and how he feels about Michael Jackson. He also posed for a very interesting photo shoot. Read the whole interview here.
