Obama tells Giffords she is an 'inspiration'

Giffords took a life-threatening wound to the head in the Jan. 8, 2011, shooting that left six people dead and 12 others besides Giffords injured. As On Deadline reported on Thursday, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has organized a national vigil to condemn gun violence and observe the anniversary.
Obama told Giffords that he and first lady Michelle Obama continue to mourn the dead from the tragedy, and they keep her and the families of the victims in their prayers, according to The Hill.
The president also "expressed amazement" at Giffords' "courage and determination," The Hill reports that the White House indicated.
Suspect Jared Lee Loughner remains in custody awaiting trial.
