Spokesman R.C. Hammond said the candidate must win both Deep South states to stay in the race. * Clay Clerk of Courts James Jett claims Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) is trying to buy him out of the GOP primary for Florida's new 3rd congressional district. At a local Republican meeting, Jeff said he had a tape of a middleman offering him cash or a position on Stearns' campaign to drop out and the matter was being investigated by the FBI. In a statement, Stearns called the report "totally unfounded" and the claims  "slanderous" and "contemptuous." * A super PAC supporting Texas Rep. Ron Paul is rethinking its commitment to the candidate after his lackluster performance on Super Tuesday. Endorse Liberty, funded largely by PayPal billionaire Peter Thiel, has spent millions on Paul's behalf but now might scale back. WHAT YOU SHOULDN'T MISS * The PAC run by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), the Senate Conservatives Fund, is going on the air again in Nebraska with a $234,000 buy supporting state Treasurer Don Stenberg in the GOP Senate primary. Stenberg also has the endorsement of the Club for Growth, but Attorney General Jon Bruning has a major lead in fundraising and polls heading into the May 15 primary. * A union-funded poll in Washington State has Rep. Jay Inslee (D) tied with Attorney General Rob McKenna (R) in the state's gubernatorial race. A recent poll from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling also found a tie; earlier surveys show McKenna ahead. * A super PAC supporting former Pennsylvania governor Rick Santorum kindly suggested this morning that Gingrich just get out of the presidential race, already. An adviser to the former House speaker responded that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney should drop out. Yeah, that probably won't happen. Gingrich's campaign is also out with a strategy memo attacking Rick Santorum — hard — as "the poster child for the big spending, compromised Republican Party the American people rejected in 2006 and 2008." * Paul is launching his Hawaii campaign with a positive 30-second spot touting his plan to cut $1 trillion from the federal budget.
