Metro board member says agency knew of brake problems for years


Metro has known about brake hub failures on its 5000 series rail cars for about six years but deferred fixing the problem for financial reasons, according to Metro board member Mort Downey.
A brake part fell from a 5000 series train in December shutting down rail service on a portion of the Orange and Blue lines for hours.
