Court rules Mubarak ally can run for president of Egypt


Egypt's highest court ruled Thursday that former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq can run for president despite his ties to the deposed regime of President Hosni Mubarak, and recommended that roughly one third of the country's Islamist-dominated parliament be disbanded because of a violation of election rules. The decisions were a setback for Egypt's revolutionaries and Islamists on the eve of the country's landmark presidential vote, which begins Saturday.
