Lunchline with Clinton Yates in Partnership with Express

I would love to talk with Adrian Fenty today. I don't know him well enough to determine whether schadenfreude is his game, but considering the hot water D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray is in, I'm sure that, at the least, he feels vindicated. If I were Fenty, I'd consider running again.

The District is making a tremendous step forward in emergency services. Beginning today, residents will be able to enroll in a program called Smart911. It allows households to add personal information to their profiles that will allow responders to have an idea of who and what they are dealing with as soon as they get a call. In short, if you provide information about the layout of your house or preexisiting medical conditions beforehand, you won't have to when you call in a panic. The Post's Mihir Zaveri reports.

An ironic situation is unfolding on the Mall. Of the three construction companies responsible for building the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, one is being accused of discriminatory hiring practices against minorities. Yesterday, unemployed construction workers took their cause to the streets. Protesters chanted "Our City! Our Jobs!" while marching in front of the Bethesda-based Clark Construction site. The Post's Marissa Evans has the details.

I love old-school movie theaters. And I'm always sad to hear when another one closes. When the Old Town Theater in Alexandria closed this year, I attended during its last weekend. It was a somber scene all around. And when the Tally Ho Theatre in Leesburg closes its doors after summer ends, it'll be another end of an era. The facility couldn't keep up with Hollywood's digital projection standards and will close its doors on Labor Day. The State of NoVa's Tom Jackman explains.

The berets are back for Americans at the Olympics. Opening ceremonies fashion is a big deal in some people's minds, and earlier this week, designer Ralph Lauren unveiled what the U.S. team will be wearing in London on the first night. After a 10-year respite from the French-inspired headgear, they're back. And this fact has Slate's Julia Turner stupefied. And she states her case well, pointing out that a beret "is not a hat associated with athleticism. Or America, for that matter."

If you've been a D.C. United fan long enough, you know better than to jump at the news of a new owner. Aside from the playoff drought, the hopes of a new facility with new leadership at the helm have come and gone more than thrice in past years. So when the Black and Red introduced two new investors this week, old supporters didn't flinch. The Post's Tracee Hamilton says it's a no-brainer to build a soccer-specific stadium in the city. I'd say that's been the case for half a decade, and until I see it, I won't hold my breath.

Extra Bites

• Publications typically don't take pride in running corrections. It's an admission of a mistake. But this one might be the best ever. Check out the letter The Post received from a Maryland elementary school concerning a book review about the Titanic. Epic.

• I never watched "Saved By the Bell" as a kid, but I know a lot of you did. And this theory concerning the show's major premise might blow your mind.

• The Killers have a new song out and it's a typical summer jam from them -- meaning it's good.
