Fayyad Backward Ready for Palestinian Unity

"No one will see me as an obstacle. I am ready to step aside anytime. This is no problem for me," said Fayyad told reporters after meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere in Oslo, Norway, Thursday (24/11/2011) .
On Thursday in Cairo, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Fatah movement and Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal, announced that they agreed to "work as partners" in order to finalize the process of reconciliation in their first direct talks since the agreement was approved last May.
The implementation of the reconciliation agreement, which called on the government for an independent while paving the way for elections in a year, proved tricky.
The composition of the interim government and who will lead it still be the most contested. Abbas himself tried to maintain Fayyad as prime minister, while the Hamas party objected to it.
In Oslo, Fayad also signed a memorandum of understanding (memorandum of understanding / MOU) with Norway and the World Health Organization (WHO) for the establishment of the Palestinian National Public Health Institute.
