Studies on Indonesia\'s Power Rate Increase to be Handed to House

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik said the results of studies on a plan to increase the basic electricity tariff would be submitted to the House of Representatives(DPR)’s Commission VII on energy in December 2011.

"The report on the results of the studies will be submitted to the House’s Commission VII," the minister told a working meeting with the House’s Commission VII on Monday.

The first working meeting with Commission VII of Wacik who was named energy minister on October 19, 2011 was marked by power outage for two times. He said that on October 7, 2011, his ministry assigned two independent institutions to conduct a study on the electricity tariff, namely the LPEM of the University of Indonesia (UI) and the LKFT of the Gajah Mada University (UGM).

The minister stated that the LPEM UI conducted a study on the impact of raising the power rate price while the LKFT UGM on the use of primary energy. He said that the studies were conducted under the request of Commission VII as the conclusion of their working meeting with the minister on September 29, 2011.

Commission VII asked the minister to report to the House the results of the studies in January 2012 at the latest.
