AirAsia Opens Jakarta-Semarang Flight Route

AirAsia Indonesia plans to open a Jakarta-Semarang flight route on March 9 next year with two flights per day. Tickets for the flight route would be on sale starting December 1, 2011, the airline’s president director, Dharmadi, said on Wednesday.
"With the opening of Jakarta-Semarang flight route, we hope both main and secondary cities in Indonesia will be linked to international destinations grouped in AirAsia route networks," he said in a statement.
As the capital of Central Java province, Semarang is either a business destination or attractive tourist site. Semarang has also been for a quite long time known as a commercial port city which had great influence in Java.
"As a transit point for foreign traders including those from China, Malay, the Middle East and Europe, Semarang is known not only as a strategic business center but also as a culture-rich tourist city," he said.
