German President to Convey General Lecture at UI Campus

Visiting German President Christian Wulff is slated to deliver a general lecture at the University of Indonesia (UI) campus on Jakarta’s southern outskirts of Depok on Thursday.

The policy to invite the German president to give a general lecture was UI’s commitment to developing internationally-oriented academic culture, acting head of the university’s communication office I Ketut Surajaya said on Wednesday. Education and Culture Minister Muhammad Nuh and UI Rector Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri were expected to attend the event, he said.

A number of world leaders such as US President Barack Obama, French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also gave general lectures at the UI campus while visiting Indonesia some time ago.

During his visit at the campus, the German president would receive standard security arrangements applicable to heads of government/state in general, head of the university’s environmental development sub-directorate Dadan Erwandi said.

On Wednesday, a number of presidential security guards (paspampres) and police personnel began to arrive at the campus to check preparations for the German president’s security. Spokesman for the Depok city police Comr Suratno said the police would cooperate with the Depok district military command in providing security in the second ring area.

The security arrangements were divided into three rings with the first ring involving presidential security guards (paspamres), the second ring involving police personnel and the third ring involving the university’s security guards. The German president is expected give a general lecture at the campus starting at 02.00 p.m. on Thursday.
