An endless debate schedule that helps no one

When the Republican debate ended last night, I wondered whether party leaders wished they had formed a debate commission similar to the one governing the general-election encounters, a move that might have reduced the seemingly endless six-month debate cycle. Because, unlike Ed, I don't think the Republican debates have elevated the participants. Prolonged exposure has hurt some of the candidates and mostly benefited President Obama, who has often been absent as the contestants have mostly attacked each other.
